GL Research Joins SNGULAR
September 19, 2024
GL Research Corporation, a company specializing in applying artificial intelligence to the Indusrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) sectors, has officially joined SNGULAR. With this move, CEO Javier García Lasheras becomes a partner and Director of Industrial Operations at SNGULAR, where he was already serving as a director and a key leader in the IoT area.

Founded in 2015 as an embedded software consulting firm specializing in Linux, GL Research achieved multiple successes (many under NDA) and gained recognition from the Linux Foundation for its technical contributions to the Yocto Project, the leading initiative for using Linux in IoT devices. To this day, it remains the only Spanish company involved un the project, alongside industry heavyweights like AWS, Meta, Dell, Intel, ARM, AMD, and BMW.
In late 2016, the company shifted its focus to applying artificial intelligence in the industrial, scientific, and medical sectors, where it achieved its most notable accomplishments.
A Track Record of Success
GL Research built a solid reputation in these sectors through the work led by García Lasheras and his team.
In the industrial sector, GL Research was a pioneer in using deep learning for quality control and predictive maintenance in automotive factories. One standout example is the SKF factory in Tudela, Navarra, where AI systems were implemented across multiple production lines, which continue to run without interruption to this day.
Currently, millions of vehicles from major automakers such as Volkswagen, Audi, and Nissan have parts that passed through AI-driven quality control systems developed by GL Research.
In the scientific field, GL Research became an official CERN Technology Provider, developing high- performance software components for the control and monitoring of experiments, including the Large Hadron Collider. The company also collaborated with CERN on cutting-edge event classification technologies using quantized neural networks that deliver high performance and ultra-low latency.
In 2017, GL Research was awarded by the Government of Navarra for developing the best technology in the region for medical applications, specifically for using AI in diagnostics. Following this recognition, the company advised the Navarra Health Service on its first strategy for AI adoption.
GL Research was also honored during the COVID-19 pandemic for its AI-driven diagnostic efforts. Additionally, the company partnered with Xilinx (now part of AMD) to develop a proof of concept for a “tricorder” (the handheld diagnostic device popularized by Star Trek) for medical applications, utilizing quantized neural networks and evolutionary algorithms (a neuromorphic approach with FPGA). This project was showcased at international events in California (2017) and Frankfurt (2018), among others.
